For years we have been known as the Hares: Equality for Women in the Peerage – but we all feel that as our campaign gathers momentum we need to focus less on the hereditary aspect of our group and more on the political nature of what we are trying to achieve. In this day and age the notion of a them and us, that we should somehow be treated different and lack equality because of a title our forefathers might have inherited. By changing our name to Daughters’ Rights we are signally our commitment to improve the lot of women in all walks of life and not simply the House of Lords.
